Chatechism Terms of Use

Effective Date: June 4, 2026

Welcome to Chatechism. These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of Chatechism, including the Chatechism website, iOS app, TestFlight or beta builds, account services, subscriptions, generated responses, daily readings reflections, Saint of the Day biographies, guided study tools, Study Rooms, invitations, notifications, saved content, speech input, support and feedback tools, and related features.

By creating an account, using Chatechism, or purchasing a subscription, you agree to these Terms.

Platform Applicability

These Terms apply to all Chatechism users, whether you access Chatechism through the website, the iOS app, a guest session, or a Chatechism account.

  • All users: Sections covering accounts, acceptable use, AI-generated content, citations, saved content, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations of liability, support, changes, governing law, and contact information apply to both web users and iOS app users.
  • Web users: Web billing, web subscription management, web cancellation, and web refund terms apply when you subscribe or manage billing through the Chatechism website.
  • iOS app users: Apple In-App Purchase billing, Apple subscription management, Apple cancellation and refund handling, Restore App Store Purchases, TestFlight or beta-testing requirements, speech input permissions, Study Room invitation handling, and iOS-first collaboration features apply when you subscribe, manage billing, test, or use app-enabled features through the iOS app or Apple Account.

If you use Chatechism on more than one platform, your account access may work across platforms, but billing management remains tied to the platform where the subscription was purchased. Some newer features may be available on iOS before they are fully available on the web.

1. What Chatechism Provides

Chatechism is a Catholic-oriented educational and devotional technology service. It provides AI-assisted answers, reflections, study tools, citations, summaries, and related content intended to help users explore Catholic teaching, Scripture, saints, and related sources.

Chatechism is not a substitute for the Catholic Church, clergy, pastoral counseling, sacramental confession, spiritual direction, legal advice, medical advice, mental health treatment, or emergency assistance.

AI-generated content may contain mistakes, omissions, incomplete citations, or interpretations that require human judgment. Users should verify important religious, moral, legal, medical, financial, or personal decisions with appropriate trusted authorities.

Feature availability may differ between web and iOS. In particular, Study Rooms and related collaboration flows are currently enabled primarily through the iOS app, while web support may be limited to fallback pages, account/billing flows, or future web functionality.

Pre-release, TestFlight, or beta versions of Chatechism may be incomplete, may contain bugs, may change before public release, and may be used to collect feedback and diagnostic information as described in the Privacy Policy and Apple's TestFlight terms.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Chatechism. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement.

Chatechism is not directed toward children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

3. Accounts

You may use some features as a guest. Some features require an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity under your account.

You agree to provide accurate account information and not impersonate another person, access another user's account, abuse guest-token systems, scrape or systematically extract large portions of the service, reverse engineer the service, or use Chatechism in a way that disrupts the service.

4. Platform-Specific Billing Terms

Chatechism may be accessed through the iOS app and through the web. Most of these Terms apply to both platforms. This section explains the billing terms that differ by platform.

If you subscribe through the iOS app, the iOS billing terms apply. Your subscription is processed by Apple In-App Purchase and is managed through your Apple Account. Apple handles billing, renewal, cancellation, and refund requests for iOS App Store subscriptions. Chatechism cannot cancel an Apple subscription on your behalf.

If you subscribe through the Chatechism website, the web billing terms apply. Your subscription is processed by Chatechism's web payment provider. Web subscriptions are managed through Chatechism's web account and billing systems, not through Apple.

A paid subscription may unlock Chatechism features across platforms when you are signed into the same Chatechism account. However, billing management remains tied to the platform where the subscription was purchased.

If you switch from web billing to Apple billing in the iOS app, Chatechism will attempt to cancel or schedule cancellation of your web-managed subscription after Apple confirms your new subscription. Any remaining web subscription time is handled according to Chatechism's billing policies and the applicable payment provider's rules. You are responsible for confirming that any unwanted subscription has been canceled.

5. Subscriptions and Paid Features

Chatechism offers paid subscription tiers that unlock digital features, including increased usage limits and premium tools. Available features may vary by plan and may change over time.

Some features are tier-gated. Study Rooms and sharing content into Study Rooms currently require the Canonized tier. Guided Study, Chatechism Challenge, and other premium learning features may require Blessed, Canonized, or another paid tier depending on the current implementation.

If you try to access a gated feature, Chatechism may show a login, account creation, or upgrade prompt before the feature can be used. Receiving an invitation to a gated feature does not waive the applicable account, platform, or subscription requirements.

Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled before the renewal date through the billing provider that manages the subscription.

For iOS subscriptions, cancellation and refund requests are handled by Apple through your Apple Account.

For web subscriptions, cancellation and refund requests are handled through Chatechism's web billing process or support channels.

6. Restore Purchases

The iOS app provides a Restore App Store Purchases feature. Restore Purchases checks whether the Apple ID currently signed into the device has an active Chatechism App Store subscription and attempts to reconnect that subscription to the logged-in Chatechism account.

If an Apple subscription is already linked to another Chatechism account, you may need to sign into that account or contact support.

Restore Purchases applies only to subscriptions purchased through Apple. It does not restore web-managed subscriptions.

7. Cancellations, Refunds, and Account Deletion

Apple subscriptions must be canceled through your Apple Account subscription settings. Chatechism cannot directly cancel Apple subscriptions for you.

Web subscriptions may be canceled according to the available web billing process or through Chatechism account deletion where supported.

If you delete your Chatechism account, your account data and app access may be permanently removed.

If you delete your account before the end of a paid subscription period, remaining paid time may be forfeited unless otherwise required by law or by the billing provider's policies.

If your subscription is managed by Apple, deleting your Chatechism account does not automatically cancel your Apple subscription. You must cancel Apple subscriptions through your Apple Account.

If your subscription is web-managed, Chatechism may attempt to cancel your web subscription as part of account deletion. If cancellation fails, Chatechism may delay account deletion and notify you so billing can be resolved.

8. Study Rooms, Invitations, and Shared Content

Study Rooms are private or account-scoped collaboration spaces for Catholic study and discussion. Study Rooms may include room membership, channels, messages, replies, shared Chatechism answers, shared source material, Guided Studies, study packets, events, videos, library items, notifications, and leaderboard or activity features.

Study Room access requires a Chatechism account and may require a paid subscription tier. Room membership and administrative permissions are enforced by Chatechism, but you are responsible for the content you post, share, invite others to view, or ask the AI to generate inside a room.

Room administrators may invite members by email or invite link, revoke invitations, manage room settings, remove content, or delete rooms where supported. Invite links may open in Safari, mobile web, email clients, messages, or the iOS app. On desktop or laptop web, Study Room invite acceptance may be unavailable until web Study Rooms are released. On mobile, Chatechism may attempt to open the iOS app first; if the app is not installed, the web fallback may offer options such as installing the app or continuing on mobile web where supported.

For the current implementation, accepting or fully using a Study Room invitation may require an iPhone with Chatechism installed and a Canonized account. Web invite pages may inform users that full web Study Room support is coming and that they should retry the invite from an iPhone with Chatechism installed.

Email invitations and invite links are intended for the invited person or intended audience. Do not publish private invite links publicly unless you intend anyone with access to the link to attempt to join the room. Chatechism may expire, revoke, reject, or limit invitations to protect users, rooms, or the service.

Study Room notifications are provided as a convenience. We do not guarantee that every notification, invite alert, event reminder, badge, or deep link will be delivered, timely, or available on every platform.

9. Saved Content and User Data

Chatechism may allow you to save reflections, sources, source metadata, Saint of the Day content, Daily Readings reflections, guided study answers, saved chat answers, chats, notes, and other artifacts. Some data may be stored locally on your device, and some may be stored in Chatechism's backend systems.

If you share saved content, generated answers, source cards, source metadata, notes, videos, Daily Readings material, Saint of the Day material, or Guided Study material into a Study Room, that material may become visible to other room members according to the room's membership and permissions.

Deleting the app may remove local-only data. Deleting your account may permanently remove backend-stored account data, subject to technical, legal, security, fraud-prevention, and backup retention needs.

10. AI Content, Citations, and Sources

Chatechism attempts to provide cited answers and source blocks where appropriate. Sources may include Scripture, catechetical material, Catholic reference works, websites, and other retrieved materials.

Citations and source summaries are provided for convenience and may not always be complete, current, or error-free. Users should consult original sources directly where accuracy matters.

Chatechism does not guarantee that AI-generated content is doctrinally complete, pastorally appropriate for every situation, or free from error.

Saved source cards, citation metadata, source labels, domains, and links are provided to help users inspect source material. Metadata may be incomplete, may be derived from third-party sources, and may change or be corrected over time.

Third-Party Content and Source Material

Chatechism may use automated technologies, including search, retrieval, scraping, summarization, and AI processing systems, to access publicly available third-party source material for the purpose of generating cited educational and devotional responses.

Chatechism does not claim ownership of third-party source material. Third-party content remains the property of its respective owners.

Chatechism is designed to dynamically retrieve and process third-party source material at request time. Chatechism does not maintain permanent libraries, archives, or cached repositories of complete third-party articles, books, or source works within its systems.

Responses generated by Chatechism are intended to be AI-generated syntheses, paraphrases, summaries, commentary, reflections, or transformative outputs rather than reproductions of source material in its original form. Chatechism generally does not present complete third-party works or substantial verbatim reproductions of those works to users and instead attempts to provide limited excerpts, citations, references, and transformed AI-assisted outputs that direct users toward original sources where appropriate.

Because AI-generated responses are dynamically created from retrieved material, citations, summaries, and generated outputs may contain inaccuracies, omissions, paraphrasing errors, truncation, or incomplete context. Users should consult original source material directly where accuracy, authorship, context, or official wording is important.

If you are a copyright owner or authorized representative and believe content accessible through Chatechism infringes your rights, you may contact support@chatechism.ai with sufficient detail for review. Chatechism may remove, block, limit, or modify access to content or sources at its discretion.

11. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use Chatechism to:

  • violate laws or regulations;
  • harass, abuse, threaten, or exploit others;
  • generate harmful, fraudulent, or deceptive content;
  • interfere with the service or bypass usage limits;
  • copy, scrape, or redistribute large portions of the service;
  • share private Study Room invite links irresponsibly, impersonate invitees, or join rooms without authorization;
  • post or share content in Study Rooms that infringes rights, violates privacy, exposes sensitive personal information without permission, or disrupts another user's study experience;
  • attempt unauthorized access to accounts, systems, APIs, or data;
  • use the service as a replacement for emergency, medical, legal, financial, or mental health services.

12. Speech Input, Permissions, and Device Features

Some iOS features may request device permissions, including microphone and speech-recognition permissions for speech input, location permissions for parish finder, and device or app permissions needed for links, sharing, notifications, or related app behavior.

You are responsible for the content you speak or submit through speech input. Transcribed speech is treated like typed input and may be processed, stored, and used as described in these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

Speech recognition, location lookup, maps, notifications, TestFlight, and other device-level features may rely on Apple or other third-party services and may not be available, accurate, or timely in every situation.

13. Intellectual Property

Chatechism, including its software, branding, design, platform technology, workflows, and non-user content, is owned by Chatechism or its licensors.

You may use generated responses for personal, devotional, educational, or study purposes. If you share generated responses, source excerpts, notes, videos, or other artifacts into a Study Room, you grant Chatechism permission to store, display, transmit, and process that material as needed to operate the room and related features. You are responsible for ensuring your use of third-party cited sources complies with those sources' rights and terms.

14. Third-Party Services

Chatechism may rely on third-party services for payments, hosting, analytics, AI processing, email, search, scraping, databases, app distribution, TestFlight beta testing, speech recognition, maps, notifications, and related app or web functionality. These services may process data as described in the Privacy Policy.

Apple is not responsible for Chatechism content, support, web-managed subscriptions, or Chatechism account services except as required for Apple In-App Purchase and App Store distribution.

15. Service Availability and Changes

Chatechism may change, suspend, limit, or discontinue features at any time. We may update models, retrieval systems, prompts, source providers, subscription benefits, token systems, or user interface behavior.

We will try to preserve paid subscriber value, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service or permanent availability of any specific feature, platform surface, invite route, notification behavior, web fallback page, or integration.

16. Disclaimers

Chatechism is provided "as is" and "as available."

We disclaim warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law, including implied warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, availability, non-infringement, and error-free operation.

Religious and educational content is provided for informational and devotional support only.

17. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Chatechism and its owners, employees, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages, including loss of data, loss of access, subscription issues, failed or delayed invitations, unavailable Study Room web support, notification delivery issues, speech-recognition errors, TestFlight or beta-build issues, reliance on generated content, or service interruption.
